Luke Edwards: 21. Protagonist. Crew cut black hair. Sideburns. Slightly thin due to malnutrition.

Luke is a caring, kind young adult living in Donquest. Luke’s childhood best friend is  Gabriel ever since he moved in next door. At school, Luke was very timid and quiet usually teased by Gabriel for his silence. He was convinced to join the Children of Iscar by his friend at age 18 to support his parents financially but only lasted three months after an incident involving him forcing to shoot an innocent child in Great Arabia. He quit believing what he did crossed the line and wouldn’t be himself again.

For the next few years, Gabriel resorts to vigilantism by killing, torturing, or executing government officials, police officers, or fanatics. He becomes known as the Vigilante of the Night for whom many people grew fond of him despite his identity not revealed. Luke thinks Gabriel is too reckless believing it is unnecessary. It is the wrong way to go about it.
At age 20, his parents were both killed and executed after Luke’s father was caught criticizing Iscar and the People’s World Government. William personally executed them leaving Luke scarred and falling into depression. Gabriel does not hesitate to comfort Luke and has him live with his family instead. When things start to get rough with hunger much more common, Luke and Gabriel agree to steal food from the plaza. They are caught in the act and both are arrested. Gabriel’s family is executed in front of him by William like how Luke’s was.

Both are sent to hard labor for three months. After Luke returns to his home, he realizes his best friend hadn’t. Fearing the worst, he thinks he is dead. In his memory, he resorts to graciously helping people in need as opposed to violent vigilantism. His deeds get him called the Angel of the Night by the local citizens and the media. As time passes however, it becomes increasingly difficult for him to survive on his own knowing the challenges especially with food shortages leading up to First Strike.
